Whether you've never heard his name or you're a cult follower, you've seen the work of Junji Ito. Ito is a horror manga artist best known for his works Tomie and Uzumaki. It is in these works that his most iconic images are found.
Ito creates strikingly simple portraits that have been replicated everywhere from hoodies to body ink, but he also creates brilliantly haunting and beautifully terrifying landscapes.
Mangakas must be skilled in drawing many things, but also using their art to elevate the story. The style of art sets the tone for a story as well as setting the limits of its design. Ito's style and story telling enhance one another and are best experienced together. I personally am drawn to the detail in his full page spreads and reading a good manga always makes me want to pick up a pen and see all the variety one pen can hold.
